Former Yorktown baseball star Jacob Pruitt selected by Phillies in 2025 MLB Draft

Former Yorktown baseball star pitcher Jacob Pruitt was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2025 MLB Draft on Monday.

A former Yorktown baseball star had his name called in the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft.

Jacob Pruitt, Yorktown Class of 2022, was selected with the 461st overall pick in the 15th round by the Philadelphia Phillies Monday, July 14. The junior right-handed pitcher was drafted out of Mississippi State after spending his first two seasons at Indiana State.

While at Yorktown, Pruitt was a two-time all-conference and two-time all-county honoree. He was an all-state honorable mention and was named The Star Press' baseball player of the year as a junior in 2021. Pruitt was also a North/South All-Star as a senior in 2022.

During his junior season at Yorktown, Pruitt recorded a .506 batting average with 44 hits and 23 stolen bases while adding a 4-2 record on the mound over 48 innings with 78 strikeouts. As a senior, he hit .407 with 24 hits and 12 stolen bases and posted a 2-2 record with a 1.40 ERA and 53 strikeouts.

After graduating from Yorktown, Pruitt led the Muncie Post 19 Chiefs to the program's third state title. He pitched the first no-hitter in an Indiana American Legion championship game since 1975.

Pruitt committed to Indiana State as a sophomore in 2020, where he would go on to play his first two seasons of collegiate baseball. As a freshman in 2023, Pruitt made 14 appearances with one start and posted a 2-1 record with a 7.17 ERA over 21⅓ innings. He battled through injury in his sophomore season in 2024, making five starts in 13 appearances and went 3-2 with a save and a 3.02 ERA over 41⅔ innings pitched.

Pruitt transferred to Mississippi State for his junior year. He appeared in nine games with two starts and pitched 18⅔ innings, posting a 1-0 record and a 7.23 ERA with 23 strikeouts. According to his X account (formerly known as Twitter), Pruitt was committed to transfer to Missouri for his senior season.
