The expectations for Billy Napier are slowly rising.

Florida Gators head coach Billy Napier may have been under the most pressure in 2024, but now the standard has been raised.

Napier is fresh off an 8-5 season, which was the first time he had a winning record at Florida. However, the head coach came in at No. 3 in the 2025 head coach pressure ratings, courtesy of On3's Ari Wasserman.

The emergence of DJ Lagway helped the Gators secure a bowl game, but the standard at Florida is to compete for national titles.

The Gators' last national championship was in 2008 under former head coach Urban Meyer, and the program has yet to make the College Football Playoff.

Napier's overall record at Florida entering 2025 is an even 19-19. His last win was a 33-8 victory over Tulane in the Gasparilla Bowl.

It has been a few years since Florida won more than eight games in a season. You would have to go back to the Dan Mullen era to find that out. Mullen led the Gators to an 11-2 finish in 2019, ending the year ranked No. 9 in the top 25.

However, Joel Klatt thinks Florida has a chance to make its first-ever CFP appearance in 2025, giving the Gators the ninth-best odds to do so.

While Napier finally got over the hump, there are still the highs and lows of recruiting. Recently, the Gators lost the battle for four-star safety Tyriq Green to the Georgia Bulldogs. Green is the No. 2 safety in the state of Georgia for the 2026 class.

Florida kicks off Napier's fourth season against Long Island on August 30.
