Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian denies the players he reels in cite money as their reason for committing. Stating his case loud and clear during SEC Media Days during the week of July 14.
Yet a former NFL safety, who happens to be a past "Sark" player, mocked the statement on X (formerly Twitter).
Su'a Cravens dropped his take on the "money" statement on Wednesday. Sarkisian first stated how "We don't talk about NIL, or revenue sharing, or publicity rights until the very end, and that may hurt us on some kids. But if the kid is coming to Texas for that reason, we don't want him anyway."
Cravens, however, called out the "irony" after watching a viral video of Texas rolling out Lamborghini's during an official visit weekend.
"Texas - 'We don’t want kids that are only coming here for the money anyway.' Also Texas - *Lines up 6 Lambo’s on the football field the day of official visits," Cravens shared with three laughing face emojis. "Just found the irony funny is all."
The luxurious cars got rolled out in front of recruits during the weekend of June 20. Even rolling inside Darnell K. Royal Stadium.
Texas has joined multiple power conference programs like USC in using name, image and likeness (NIL) deals to help complete verbal commitments to the 'Horns. Five-star signing Justus Terry revealed to Chad Simmons of On3/Rivals in February that NIL played into his decision to flip from Georgia.
USC turned to NIL to win over some high-profile members of its 2026 class. Notably Mark Bowman, as the tight end is expected to earn $8 to $10 million with the Trojans.
Still, NIL has reshaped college football recruiting compared to the time Sarkisian and Cravens were at USC. Except now former players can become vocal about it -- even if it means calling out a school featuring their former coach.
Cravens played two seasons with Sarkisian at USC. He eventually landed in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft after earning All-American honors for the Trojans. He hasn't played in the league since 2019.
