Knicks reportedly interested in bringing back veteran sharpshooter

The Knicks have been linked to a possible Landry Shamet return

The New York Knicks have already began beefing up their bench for next season, and they might be willing to bring back a reserve from last season.

SNY’s Ian Begley said on ‘The Putback with Ian Begley’ that the Knicks are interested in bringing back Landry Shamet. The 28-year-old appeared in 50 games with the Knicks last season, averaging 5.7 points per game while shooting 40 percent from three-point range.

“I do think there’s some support for that idea, bringing the veteran back,” Begley said. “You saw how he played in the Eastern Conference Finals when he got some minutes, how he impacted the game.”

Shamet had signed a one-year, $1.68 million contract with the Knicks before last season, and now could be brought back on another short, cheap deal.

Shamet was largely out of the rotation for most of the playoffs, but he did appear in four games in the Eastern Conference Finals against the Indiana Pacers where he did have a positive impact. Shamet’s plus/minus of +21 was the highest of any Knick during the series, per StatMuse

In a much improved bench unit for next season, Shamet could provide the second unit with spacing and high energy on both ends of the floor.
