The New York Mets are urged to trade for a star closer from an AL team to solidify the bullpen for a pennant race.
The New York Mets will look to add more talent to the roster ahead of the Major League Baseball trade deadline on July 31.
One area of need for the Mets is pitching, and more specifically, the bullpen. MLB insiders Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman of the New York Post urge the Mets to trade for Jhoan Duran from the Minnesota Twins to solidify the bullpen.
"I think that the Mets are good enough to win a championship this year. And I don't think (David Stearns) can take a half-measure here. I think he's got to use real prospects," Sherman said on The Show: A NY Post baseball podcast. "If Duran or Griffin Jax gets into the market, I think the Mets have to be very bold and try to get that kind of relief pitcher.”

Heyman, meanwhile, agreed with Sherman as he believes Duran is a good trade fit for the Mets.
“(The Mets) need to go for it. Duran, from the Twins, would be fantastic,” Heyman wrote.
Duran is earning $4.125 million this season and is under team control through the 2027 MLB season, so the price to acquire the star closer likely wouldn’t be cheap. But, he would be a high-leverage reliever to pair with Edwin Diaz at the backend of the Mets’ rotation.
Duran is 5-4 with a 1.66 ERA in 44 games with 15 saves this season. The right-hander has a career ERA of 2.41 in 227.2 innings.
