PSG are targeting a new centre-back after a successful season but Bournemouth are standing firm on their valuation.
PSG are coming off one of the most decorated seasons in club history after lifting four major trophies and also reaching the final of the FIFA Club World Cup.
Even after a season filled with silverware, the Ligue 1 champions are still focused on adding strength to their central defence before the new campaign begins.
Les Parisiens loss against Chelsea in the Club World Cup final exposed clear cracks in depth, especially after Willian Pacho missed out due to suspension and the backup options failed to cope with pressure in the big moments.
Marquinhos remains a leader and a regular starter, but PSG know they cannot rely on him alone for another full season, especially with 21-year-old Lucas Beraldo now reportedly asking to leave in search of a bigger role elsewhere.
To fill this gap PSG have turned to the Premier League in pursuit of Bournemouth defender Illia Zabarnyi but their efforts so far have faced strong resistance as the French side struggle to convince the English club to sell the Ukrainian.
Bournemouth not convinced by PSG offer
PSG have made Illia Zabarnyi their number one centre-back target but Bournemouth have turned down two offers, with Independent confirming the second bid reached nearly €60m [$69m].
The Premier League side are demanding €70m [$81m] for the 22-year-old Ukrainian defender, which is more than the €57m [$67m] Real Madrid reportedly paid for Dean Huijsen in a deal agreed in principle.
Zabarnyi is open to the move, according to L’Equipe’s Loïc Tanzi, but RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins reports there has been little movement in talks in recent days.
While PSG are also tracking Ibrahima Konate of Liverpool, interest from Real Madrid could make that deal complex.
The Cherries know they hold the upper hand and with Newcastle United and Manchester City reportedly showing interest, they see no reason to lower their demands.
