Jennerstown Speedway to host 2-day vintage car jamboree featuring former Daytona 500 champ

Check out everything Jennerstown Speedway has planned for the East Coast's largest 2-day vintage car jamboree.

The Atlantic Coast Old Timers (ACOT) is bringing the largest vintage car jamboree on the East Coast to Jennerstown Speedway, July 18-19.

More than 70 cars from across the country, including Midgets, Sprint Cars, Champ Cars, Super Modifieds, Indy Cars and Stock Cars will be on display and will take to the track in speed-controlled exhibition laps.

There will be on-track sessions for cars in similar groups from noon to 5 p.m., July 18, followed by a country mountain barbeque jamboree and a Bluegrass band from 7-10.

Things ramp up July 19. A vintage race fest will be set up from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. behind the main grandstand along the midway that will include an autograph alley. Joining a who's who list of names is 1986 Daytona 500 champion, Geoff Bodine, Central Pennsylvania Sprint and Midget legend Van May, USAC driver Michael Lang, Midget standout John Heydenreich, racing historian Lou Timolot, URC/ARDC legends Brian Seidel and Billy Hughes. Hall of Fame driver Gerald Chamberlain, who is known to many as the "Everett Express," will also be in attendance.

Former NASCAR driver and Daytona 500 champion, Geoff Bodine will attend the Jennerstown Speedway vintage car jamboree.

There will also be book signing opportunities, vintage artwork, photo booths and an interview station set up. The July 19 racing program, beginning at 6:20 p.m., will feature five weekly divisions and include vintage racing sessions. A secondary 50/50 winner will have the opportunity to ride in a two-seater vintage Modified Coupe driven by Bodine.

"This should pan out to be the vintage meet of the year," said event organizer Gary Mondschein, who is representing the ACOT organization. "We've got teams coming in from as far west as Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and from Florida to Maine."

Mondschein has a long history of running Midgets at Jennerstown Speedway. He also competed at Motordrome Speedway. Mondschein was also a member of the American Racers Drivers Club.

The crowd and track at Jennerstown left a lasting memory on Mondschein. It is the first track he felt would be suited for a vintage jamboree. Being centrally located, Jennerstown Speedway hit all the boxes for him. There is a hope for this event to return to Jennerstown and make it a national vintage event, bringing people together from all over the world.

The entire event is open to the public and is supported by complimentary on-grounds camping.
