Nottingham Forest have written to Tottenham Hotspur and Morgan Gibbs-White’s agent to threaten legal action over breaching Premier League rules, per Sky Sports

Gibbs-White appeared to be on the verge of joining the Lilywhites after the club triggered the £60 million release clause in the midfielder’s contract

However, the proposed move has stalled as Forest launched a complaint to the Premier League that Spurs had approached the player without their permission.

The West Bridgford side have now put both Tottenham and Gibbs-White’s agent on legal notice, reminding them of their obligations and spelling out how the two parties have breached the league rules and the terms of the player’s contract.

Forest recently sold Anthony Elanga to Newcastle United in a deal worth £55m. They are not prepared to lose another top player and so are fighting to keep Gibbs-White at the City Ground.

The England international has been a consistent performer since joining the Reds in 2022, scoring 18 goals and providing 28 assists in 118 appearances.

He has two years left on his current deal, but the presence of the release clause means they don’t have control over his future.

Forest have been trying for a year to negotiate a new and improved contract with Gibbs-White, but he has refused to engage in those talks.

The midfielder’s refusal to discuss new terms shows he is not interested in staying at City Ground and wants a new challenge elsewhere.
