Russell Westbrook has been projected to sign with a potential Eastern Conference playoff team this offseason.

The Denver Nuggets have been extremely active this offseason as they have made multiple moves to upgrade their roster around their core of Nikola Jokic, Aaron Gordon and Jamal Murray.
Denver began the offseason by trading Michael Porter Jr. and a 2032 first-round pick to the Brooklyn Nets for Cameron Johnson as they not only added a three-point sharpshooter to their roster but also freed up cap space.
Because of this, the Nuggets then went out and signed Bruce Brown and Tim Hardaway Jr. in free agency and pulled off a trade with the Sacramento Kings for Jonas Valanciunas.
While the Nuggets have been busy this summer, one of their former players is still on the free agent market.
That player is Russell Westbrook, who had a career resurgence last season in Denver after a couple of underwhelming seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers.
Recently, Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz released an article projecting where the top remaining free agent will sign and he has Westbrook heading to the Miami Heat.
“Westbrook would join a guard rotation that features Tyler Herro, Davion Mitchell, Norman Powell and rookie Kasparas Jakučionis, giving Miami a dynamic playmaker that can still get downhill and attack a defense,” Swartz wrote. “With making a playoff run still very much the goal, Westbrook can keep the seat warm for a year while Jakučionis learns the NBA game.”
Swartz makes a great point about Westbrook being able to fill in at the point guard position for the Heat until Jakučionis is ready to take the next step and the veteran guard would be a solid addition to Miami’s roster.
Westbrook is no longer the MVP caliber player that he once was but he proved in Denver last season that he can still play a large role either off the bench or in the starting lineup, especially on the offensive end.
With the Heat looking to make some noise in a weakened East next season, adding Westbrook could allow them to take another step.
