WNBA Fans Angered by Referee's Decision After Former MVP Takes Swing at Aliyah Boston

That did not look good.

WNBA Fans Angered by Referee's Decision After Former MVP Takes Swing at Aliyah Boston originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

There was no shortage of action when the Indiana Fever and the Connecticut Sun last faced off on June 17. That feisty affair resulted in multiple ejections for players on both sides, following several heated altercations throughout the contest. In the end, the Fever prevailed, 88-71.

These two teams went at it again on Tuesday, and while there weren’t as many contentious moments compared to their first meeting, there was still a controversial incident during the game that drew the ire of WNBA fans everywhere.

At one point in the third quarter, Fever star Aliyah Boston got tied up with former league MVP Tina Charles down low. Boston hit the deck after Charles took a swing as the two were jockeying for position.

It is unclear from the video if Charles actually made direct contact with Boston’s face, but it appears that there was some sort of intent from the Sun veteran.

The referees, however, did not see anything wrong with the incident. No foul was called, and the game continued, much to the dismay of fans on social media.

“What the absolute hell,” a comment on X read.

“How tf is this a common foul...The WNBA refs are an embarrassment...” said another.

“despicable,” posted a user.

“The @wnba refs literally just allow players to throw punches at Fever players,” a reaction read.

“Fix your league, @CathyEngelbert. @WNBA your refs are a joke,” another said.

“RIDICULOUS,” declared a fan.

The supporters clearly aren’t happy with how Charles wasn’t punished for her actions here. This could have very easily turned ugly if she had made full contact with Boston’s face, which, luckily, was not the case.

The Fever and the Sun are involved in a close one here. As of writing, Indiana is up 69-67 with seven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
