Insider reveals reason ex-Penn State, Cowboys' Micah Parsons hasn't signed new deal

There's plenty for Micah Parsons and the Cowboys to consider.

Former Penn State star and current Dallas Cowboys edge Micah Parsons is in the middle of a contract situation.

Parsons likely doesn't want to deal with this, as he continues to prove that he's arguably the best edge in the NFL.

However, similar to what Jerry Jones has done in the past, he isn't giving him the money he's looking for at this time. It'll likely come during the rest of the summer, with Parsons expected to get a deal before the start of the campaign.

When recently examining the potential outcomes, according to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, a significant factor is the number of years for his eventual contract.

He later added that it remains uncertain whether the Cowboys star will sit out during training camp or show up and do what he needs to do.

Parsons has noted in the past that he wants to win a Super Bowl, so his plan might be to show up and practice. Considering he's likely looking at one of the biggest deals for a non-quarterback in NFL history, practicing has some risks.

“What seems certain is that the average per year on Parsons’s contract will have to start with a four and the guarantees will have to be well into nine figures.

“Whether that comes together via a holdout, or with less acrimony, remains to be seen,” he wrote.

It's always tough to see players go through these contract situations, as there isn't much they can do to change things.

If a team doesn't want to pay them, they don't have to.

Regardless of why the Cowboys are making the wrong decision, considering Parsons has had at least 12 sacks in each of his first four seasons, with 52.5 in total, the ownership and front office have decisions to make, and he's clearly not at the top of that list for whatever reason.
