An interesting option may have emerged for the New York Giants should they decide to move on from head coach Brian Daboll if he delivers another disappointing season in 2025.

Giants coach Brian Daboll is in the hottest seat in the entire NFL heading into the upcoming season. That is what comes with a pair of losing campaigns, including a 3-14 showing last year. That, along with rumors of poor relationships with some of his coaches, guarantees the team has to be far better in 2025. Or he will be looking for work next year.

Unless they have a strong start, there will be speculation about his potential replacement. And an interesting possibility emerged this week.

“A very much in-the-know person that I have a lot of respect for and have spent a lot of time around, and just really, really admire — they seem to think Nick Saban is not done coaching,” Former Alabama QB Greg McElroy claimed this week. “He’s pretty adamant that he thinks Nick Saban will be coaching again.”

Could the legendary Crimson Tide coach be a candidate for the job he has been linked to in the past next year?

Saban is, arguably, the greatest coach in college football history. During stints with Michigan State, LSU, and Alabama, he posted an amazing 297-71-1 record. Furthermore, he has the most national championship wins in the sport’s history with seven. Yet he also has an extensive coaching background in the NFL.

He served as the defensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns for four seasons under fellow iconic coach Bill Belichick. And he was the head coach of the Miami Dolphins for two seasons. Posting a 15-17 record.

Following Tom Coughlin’s departure in 2015, the New York Giants have gone with mostly younger coaches over the last decade. And it has delivered only two winning seasons in that time. There is a good chance the organization will look to return to having an older leader with an extensive coaching history. It is why Belichick has been linked to the franchise often in recent years.

However, with Saban set to turn 74 years old in October, he may even too old for the strategy of going with a greybeard coach. Especially with the organization hoping Jaxson Dart can be a potential franchise QB. The team will want a coach who can be with Dart for a very long time. Saban is unlikely to coach more than four or five seasons if he does return to the coaching ranks.

If the Giants were in a position similar to the Green Bay Packers or Dallas Cowboys, where they might be a great coach away from reaching the Super Bowl, Saban might be more seriously considered. But they are definitely not in that position heading into the 2025 season.
