The Indiana Fever made a big splash in free agency when they brought in two-time WNBA champion DeWanna Bonner over the offseason in February.

However, things didn’t work out between Bonner and the Fever, as she requested to be moved. The team granted her request, and she soon joined her fiancée and former Connecticut Sun teammate, Alyssa Thomas, on the Phoenix Mercury.

Bonner’s transition to the Mercury has been relatively smooth, and she delivered her best performance of the season in Phoenix’s 78-77 win over Kayla Thornton and the Golden State Valkyries on Monday.

Bonner finished the night with a season-high 22 points on 7-of-8 shooting, 11 rebounds, two assists and a steal. In fact, Bonner made a bit of history.

With her latest points and rebounds double-double, Bonner recorded just the fifth game in Phoenix history with 20 or more points and 10 or more rebounds off the bench.

The other four instances also belong to Bonner from her first stint with the Mercury (2009-2019). Her first came during her rookie season (June 17, 2009), when Bonner recorded 21 points and 10 rebounds in a win over the Minnesota Lynx. Her second came less than a year later (May 22, 2010), recording 24 points and 12 rebounds in a loss to the Seattle Storm.

Bonner's third such game came the following season (Aug. 7, 2011), when she tallied 24 points and 11 rebounds in a loss to the Sun. Four days later, she did it for the fourth time, posting 25 points and 13 rebounds in a win over the Atlanta Dream.
