San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama shares an update on his return to the court from season-ending blood clots.
The San Antonio Spurs were forced to shut Victor Wembanyama down for the season as he was diagnosed with blood clots. The 2023-24 Rookie of the Year appeared in just 46 games in his sophomore season.
He was named an All-Star and appeared on his way to being named Defensive Player of the Year before the injury. Wembanyama averaged 24.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.1 steals and 3.8 blocks per game while shooting 47.6% from the field, 35.2% from three-point range and 83.6% from the free-throw line.
The Spurs star recently sat down with Maxime Aubin, where he revealed that he has fully recovered from the blood clot in his shoulder and been cleared to return to the court.
"I'm officially cleared to return," Spurs center Victor Wembanyama stated Monday. "It just happened — I got the green light from the Spurs' medical staff just a few hours ago (last Friday). Phew, I’ll finally be able to play a bit of basketball again!"

The Spurs will look to take the next step into contention next season. They added Dylan Harper and Carter Bryant to their core of Wembanyama, Stephon Castle and De'Aaron Fox. While it may be a couple of years before San Antonio is truly ready to contend in a loaded Western Conference, they figure to compete for a postseason spot in 2025-26.
