Victor Wembanyama provides an update on his long-term Spurs future

Victor Wembanyama shares an update on his long-term career plans and his future with the San Antonio Spurs.

Victor Wembanyama has lived up to his pre-draft hype in his first two years with the San Antonio Spurs. The first overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft was named Rookie of the Year and finished as the Defensive Player of the Year runner-up in 2023-24.

He was named an All-Star and appeared on his way to winning the award in his sophomore season, however, blood clots limited him to just 46 games. Wembanyama averaged 24.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.1 steals and 3.8 blocks per game while shooting 47.6% from the field, 35.2% from three-point range and 83.6% from the free-throw line.

While he has a long way to go before hitting unrestricted free agency, there are likely 29 other teams who would love to add him to their roster. Wembanyama recently shared his thoughts on leaving the Spurs in an interview with Maxime Aubin.

"I know that not every player in the NBA has the same ambitions, but it’s obviously my dream to spend my entire career with a single franchise," Spurs center Victor Wembanyama stated Monday. "Here. In San Antonio"

Wembanyama's comments will certainly bring plenty of joy to Spurs' fans as they are hopeful that he will the anchor of a dynasty. While San Antonio has failed to reach the postseason in each of his first two seasons, they have built a solid foundation for the future.

The Spurs are hoping to take the next step in their rebuild in 2025-26. While many believed they could make an all-in move in an attempt to begin their window of contention and keep Wembanyama happy, it appears that the star center is willing to be patient with San Antonio's front office.
