Real Madrid have completed the signing of Benfica left-back Álvaro Carreras, the Spanish club confirmed on Monday.
The 22-year-old previously spent three years in Madrid’s youth system before joining Manchester United in 2020.
Carreras becomes the latest addition to Madrid’s defensive ranks, following the recent arrivals of centre-back Dean Huijsen and right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The deal also spells a financial boost for Manchester United. The Red Devils are set to earn a significant sum from the transfer due to a sell-on clause included when Carreras departed Old Trafford for Benfica last year.
The move is reportedly worth over £43 million, with United expected to receive around £7.5 million from the sale, according to reports. That figure comes on top of the £6 million the club recently pocketed from Anthony Elanga’s switch to Newcastle United.
