Before joining the Tigers as a two-sport athlete, Horn went to Colins Hill High in Georgia where he was a consensus four-star football prospect. Entering the draft, MLB.com listed the 21-year old flamethrower listed as their 128th overall prospect.
"Horn drew comparisons to Bubba Chandler as a Georgia high school right-hander/quarterback in 2022, and while evaluators rated Chandler (now the best mound prospect in the Minors) as having more explosive stuff, Horn was a superior athlete, strike thrower and passer," a scouting report said on MLB.com.
Horn underwent Tommy John surgery and missed the 2024 football season and the beginning of the 2025 baseball campaign. After returning from injury this spring, Horn saw limited action on the mound. He finished the season throwing 10 and two-thirds innings, and allowed five runs, walked eight and struck out 14.
On the gridiron this fall, Horn is expected to compete for Mizzou's starting quarterback job with Beau Pribula — Eli Drinkwitz's latest QB portal addition out of Penn State. Although it is unknown whether the redshirt junior will be eligible for the 2025 football season, Pribula is likely to be in the driver's seat for the starting spot.
Entering Day 2 of the MLB draft, Horn was seen as one of the top prospects remaining on the board.
"Horn creates quality extension with his 6-foot-4 frame and athletic delivery, providing deception with a low arm slot and release height. He's still refining his control and command after working just 15 innings in three college seasons, but they should become average as he gains more experience," the scouting report read.
Horn’s selection by the Dodgers on Day 2 gives him a big decision to make. If he signs, he’ll forgo the 2025 football season. If he stays, he’ll remain eligible to compete at quarterback for Missouri this fall and return to the baseball field in 2026.
