Florida signed a guard to complete the roster

The Florida Gators' 2024-25 basketball season was one to remember. Losing only four games all year while winning their fifth SEC Tournament title and third national championship in program history, head coach Todd Golden's team was incredible.
However, with the backcourt trio of Walter Clayton Jr., Alijah Martin and Will Richard departing for the NBA, Golden had to retool his roster this offseason in hopes of another title-winning campaign.
He did this by adding high-profile transfers and top high school talent. On Monday, the Gators finalized their roster for the upcoming season by dipping into the NCAA Transfer Portal one more time, as Florida grabbed an experienced guard to give the final scholarship to.
The Gators acquired former Sacramento State guard Alex Kovatchev to finish off their 2025-26 roster, reported by 247Sports' Graham Hall. Kovatchev played his first two collegiate seasons with the Hornets, tallying 33 appearances his freshman year and only four games last season due to injury.
As a freshman, Kovatchev played 22.8 minutes per game, putting up five points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. Last season, the 6-foot-5 guard averaged 8.5 points and five rebounds in the team's first four games before missing the remaining 28 because of a leg injury.
Kovatchev, who is from Perth, Australia, the same hometown as Florida big man Alex Condon, played with Condon for Western Australia in the U20 Australian Junior National Championships. The pair helped their team win a gold medal, with Condon scoring 24 points and Kovatchev pouring in 20 in the final.
This is an exciting final piece to Golden's puzzle in his quest to secure back-to-back NCAA titles for the second time in program history.
