Salvatore Esposito is starting to get more and more attention in England. The 24-year-old midfielder, who currently plays for Serie B side Spezia, is reportedly ready to take a step forward and try his luck in the Premier League. His name has started to circulate among several clubs looking to strengthen their midfield with a versatile player with a hunger to grow. As reported by Graeme Bailey in TBR Football, Everton and Fulham are among the first teams interested. The idea of a loan with an option to buy seems viable, although an outright sale is not ruled out.
Everton want to add quality and options
Everton continue to explore alternatives to strengthen a squad that needs more spark and depth in midfield. After exploring options such as John McGinn, who was not expected to leave Aston Villa, the Toffees have turned their attention to Esposito. The board know they can’t afford big money, that’s why a loan with an option to buy would fit well in their financial plan.
David Moyes is looking for profiles that adapt to different positions, something that can be done by Esposito. In addition, the possibility of a permanent transfer is not ruled out either. The operation could be closed at a reasonable price, and it would be a gamble that fits with Moyes’ vision of strengthening a midfield that needs fresh legs and can fit in according to the manager’s tactics.
Is Esposito the right man for Everton?
In our opinion, he is indeed the right man. Everton need new players in midfield and someone to bring versatility. Esposito has shown in Italy that he can play as a defensive midfielder or further forward as a number ten. That versatility adds a lot for his current team, which lacks players of such class. Moreover, his desire to move out of Serie B and test himself in such a demanding league speaks well of his competitive nature.
He won’t be the star to solve all the problems, but he will be a piece that fits well in Moyes’ system. Everton must take a chance with profiles like his: young, hungry, affordable players who has got the potential. If they can get a deal done without compromising their finances, Esposito could be a welcome surprise at Goodison Park.
