Los Angeles has done more than stay afloat without them, going 58-39 with a 5.5-game lead over the San Diego Padres for the National League West halfway through the season.
But this is a long summer, and keeping everyone as fresh as possible for another potential deep, October run should be a priority.
According to MLB Insider Bob Nightengale, the Dodgers have presented “strong interest” to the Minnesota Twins about their closer, Jhoan Duran.
Duran, 27, has been remarkable since making his MLB debut in 2022. Over 218 games and 227 and 2/3 innings, he has a 2.41 ERA, a 2.71 FIP, and 73 saves. That includes a stellar 1.66 ERA, a 2.13 FIP, and 15 saves in 2025.
Duran will also not become an unrestricted free agent until 2028 and would represent a significant short-term and long-term upgrade over current closer Tanner Scott, who has struggled with a 4.09 ERA and a 3.83 FIP in his first campaign with the Dodgers.
He would be costly, particularly with so many years of team control remaining. But, the Twins are also 47-49, and while they are in second place in the AL Central, they trail the Detroit Tigers by a seemingly insurmountable 11.5 games.
The Wild Card is still wide open, but should Minnesota continue to float around .500, it could feel far more inclined to sell at the deadline.
