Barcelona defender Hector Fort has not made the best start to pre-season preparations.
According to a report from AS, the young defender was the only one of the 35 players called up for Monday’s medical checks to arrive late, well past the 9 a.m. deadline.
This incident did not go unnoticed by Hansi Flick, who is known for his strict discipline. For the Barcelona manager, punctuality is non-negotiable, as even Jules Kounde found himself benched three times last season for arriving late to pre-match tactical meetings.
Fort’s tardiness immediately triggered Flick’s attention, and the coach wasted no time giving him a live reprimand in front of the team.
Despite being one of the promising talents from La Masia, Fort’s place in the first team is not guaranteed.
Facing uncertain future anyway
With Kounde being a regular starter at right-back and Eric Garcia performing well when used in that position, Fort is currently facing tough competition for minutes.

To make things more complicated, Fort was one of the guests at Lamine Yamal’s birthday party, which lasted until the early morning hours.
However, this won’t serve as an excuse for his lateness. Flick made it clear that discipline comes first, no matter the reason.
Meanwhile, inside the club, there is already talk about the possibility of sending Fort out on loan. The club is of the idea that the 18-year-old might benefit from regular playing time elsewhere to continue his development.
In fact, the team believes a temporary move could help him mature both as a player and a professional, especially with Kounde occupying the right-back role full-time.
