Miami Marlins select FSU baseball's Max Williams in third round of 2025 MLB Draft

The Miami Marlins selected Florida State baseball slugging outfielder Max Williams in the third round of the 2025 MLB Draft.

The Miami Marlins selected Florida State baseball slugging outfielder Max Williams with the 78th pick in the third round of the 2025 MLB Draft.

Williams is the fourth Seminole to be selected, joining Jamie Arnold (Round 1, 11th pick, Athletics), Alex Lodise (Round 2, 60th pick, Atlanta Braves) and Cam Leiter (Round 2, 65th pick, Los Angeles Dodgers).

The slot value for the 78th overall pick is $1,043,700.

What does Max Williams bring to Miami?

Florida State's Max Williams hits a two-run homer during game three of the Corvallis Super Regional of the NCAA Tournament at Goss Stadium on Sunday, June 8, 2025, in Corvallis, Ore.

A power bat that can hit to all parts of the field, Williams has big-time pop potential. Outfield might not be his long-term position, but Williams's bat can carry him through the minor leagues if he remains consistent.

He posted a .321 batting average and .990 OPS with 75 hits and 47 runs scored alongside 19 home runs, 53 RBI and .603 slugging % in his junior campaign with the Seminoles. His 19 home runs were tied for the team lead with freshman slugger Myles Bailey.

Williams made a few standout defensive plays, but he will need to be more consistent in center field if he wants to project long-term as an outfielder in the MLB.
