Brewers second pick in MLB draft has plenty in common with Brice Turang

Brady Ebel's profile (at least on the surface) has a lot in common with Brewers Platinum Glove winner Brice Turang

Seven years ago, the Milwaukee Brewers took a left-handed hitting shortstop from Corona, California, who had a verbal commitment to Louisiana State University and a big-league father.

It worked out so well the Brewers went back to the well with the 32nd overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft.

Brady Ebel became the Brewers' second of five total picks on Day 1 of the draft. And though he has clear similarities at face value to Platinum Glove winner Brice Turang, Milwaukee's selection at No. 21 overall in 2018, the profile of the player himself differs.

Ebel, the son of Los Angeles Dodgers third base coach Dino Ebel, is a broad-shouldered, 6-foot-3 athlete whose offensive game is predicated on a line drive swing that has plenty of power projection. Announced as a shortstop by the Brewers, Ebel played mostly third base in high school because his team also had Billy Carlson, who went 10th overall to the Chicago White Sox.

Ebel is the third player taken from Corona High School, with right-hander Seth Hernandez also joining the mix at No. 6 overall to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Ebel, who hasn't turned 18 yet, is a pick that will require plenty of patience as the Brewers try to get the most out of his raw talent.

According to Baseball America's scouting report on him, "Ebel is more of a line-drive hitter currently, but he has the physical projection to dream of at least average game power in the future, with on-base skills that should provide a decent offensive floor. Ebel is a below-average runner who might not have the speed to stick at a middle infield position."
