Liverpool could be about to do something very special. The Reds have a £45m opportunity here.
Liverpool have been about as free as they've ever been with transfers this summer. They've broken their record for a full-back by signing Jeremie Frimpong and then broke it again by signing Milos Kerkez.

The big one, of course, is Florian Wirtz. He's now the club's record signing, joining from Bayer Leverkusen for £100m. That could eventually stretch to £117m, making him the British transfer record.
That's probably the end of the freedom, however. Liverpool boasted that financial flexibility largely because they made a healthy profit last summer before winning the Premier League.
Going forward, sales will have to come first in order to trim a slightly bloated squad. Then there are the players who appear to want exits, with Luis Diaz arguably the headline act in that regard.
There's another delicate situation, however. Ibrahima Konate is now in the final year of his deal and Liverpool have to make a decision.
A £45m opportunity might swing everything in their favour, though.
£45m in, £45m out
Liverpool reportedly want around £45m in order to sell Konate this summer. That's per Marca and other Spanish outlets who suggest the Reds are willing sellers but only for a fairly large price.
Real Madrid are the supposed destination. Konate appears to have decided he wants to go there - but whether they're willing to buy him now or wait a year for a free transfer isn't entirely clear.
The price-tag is an interesting one, though. It's essentially what Crystal Palace want in order to sell Marc Guehi a year early, a player in an identical situation to Konate.
He's the defender Liverpool want and with good reason - an established Premier League defender who's also homegrown. The Reds won't do better than that, quite honestly.
Getting Konate out and signing Guehi for the same price would be a dream. Technically, this can happen in a year's time as both move for free but getting it done in 2025 would deliver peace of mind. That's something Liverpool could really use rather than another season with contract uncertainty.
It basically all hinges on Real Madrid offering the Konate money. We'll see on that - it's not something they like to do but they're also struggling right now and need to upgrade their squad.
This 'swap' for Liverpool is a chance for everyone to get what they want. Let's see what happens.
