Yankees may trade away 30-year-old feel-good story due to overcrowded roster

J.C. Escarra may be on the move.

The New York Yankees have more hitters than they know what to do with. One or two talented bats seem to find themselves on the bench every game.

That could lead to a trade out of the Bronx ahead of the deadline, even though the Yankees will be generally viewed as buyers.

The guy that goes could be catcher J.C. Escarra. The New York Post's Joel Sherman reports other teams are calling about Escarra.

Escarra is one of baseball's best feel-good stories. He was out of affiliated ball and driving an Uber to make ends meet, yet somehow found his way back and earned a path to the big leagues out of the Yankees' minor-league system.

Now, he's a backup who has had strong moments.

Escarra also qualifies as one of the best defensive catchers in baseball. His pitch framing is elite.

Most contenders would love to have a hard-working, strong-defending catcher on their roster, even just as a backup.

And since the Yankees have Austin Wells and Ben Rice also capable of catching, they may indeed move on from Escarra despite his inspiring story.
