Inter Milan could move to sign an experienced defender this summer if they’re unable to bring in Parma’s Giovanni Leoni.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Inter Milan have one outstanding priority for the remainder of the summer transfer window. That is to sign a defender.
The name that has clearly emerged at the top of Inter’s list of targets is Parma defender Giovanni Leoni.
The Nerazzurri feel that the 19-year-old is the ideal profile. He has worked successfully with coach Cristian Chivu. And clearly, his age means that he has plenty of room to grow.
Inter Could Sign A More Experienced Defender If They Miss Out On Giovanni Leoni
However, there is no guarantee that Inter will be able to get a deal done for Giovanni Leoni. Parma are holding out for a very high fee for the teenager.
And according to the Gazzetta dello Sport, if Inter can’t sign Leoni, they may decide to pivot to targeting a more experienced defender.
The Nerazzurri have already signed three players under 25. And they’re also ready to hand Francesco Pio Esposito a place in their senior squad.
Therefore, Inter have certainly taken significant steps to lower the average age of their squad already.
And while Leoni would present an opportunity to take an even more dramatic step in that direction, Inter won’t dogmatically insist on signing a player as young as the 19-year-old if they miss out on him.
