Rob Dillingham On Anthony Edwards' Passionate Support

The 2025 NBA Summer League has been good for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Joan Beringer is probably the player who has drawn the most attention, but incoming sophomore guard Rob Dillingham is making the most out of it. The 2025 NBA Summer League has been good for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Joan Beringer is probably the player who has drawn the most attention, but incoming sophomore guard Rob Dillingham is making the most out of it.

While he had a lackluster first game, Dillingham was excellent in the Timberwolves' second game. Against the Denver Nuggets, Dillingham scored 15 points, grabbed four rebounds, dished out nine assists, and stole the ball three times. It was a well-rounded performance that drew cheers from the crowd, including Timberwolves superstar Anthony Edwards.

Dillingham did not get to play heavy minutes in his rookie year. It was a disappointment for most fans, as they wanted Dillingham to take over the point guard position for the long-term future.

That did not happen under coach Chris Finch, but it looks like he is showing the improvements from the work he did during the 2024-25 season. He is learning from veteran guard Mike Conley Jr., assistant coach Pablo Prigioni, and many more teammates. That includes Edwards, who is a notable fan of Dillingham's.

Dillingham's Thoughts On Edwards' Courtside Support

During the Timberwolves' Summer League game against the Nuggets, Edwards and Naz Reid were watching on the sidelines. Since Reid is not the loudest of people, Edwards was the one who the Timberwolves heard cheering from the sidelines.

Dillingham was one of the players he cheered for the loudest, which he is known to do during the 2024-25 season. That is why Edwards is popular amongst his teammates, as he is always supporting them no matter what.

That can be through their play on the court or by cheering loudly on the sidelines. Edwards is the optimal star player for Minnesota, and his leadership has constantly improved through the years, even at 23.

"He’s like that for everybody. That’s how Ant is, he wants to see the young guys go," Dillingham said after the Nuggets game. "Especially if you put in work, he sees us put in work, so he feels like we deserve it. So he’s going to cheer us on, just like we cheer him on."

Dillingham Can Be A Breakout Star For The Timberwolves In The 2025-26 Season

As the eighth overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, Dillingham came into the league with considerable hype. He was superb in his lone season at Kentucky, and he was a natural guard who could transition well into the NBA.

That did not happen, but he has always been in the Timberwolves' plans. Considering the point guard position is the hardest one to learn in the NBA, Dillingham has learned a lot during his spell on the sidelines and his sporadic minutes in the league.

With the minutes he has received in the NBA Summer League, he has been impressive enough to earn a shot at rotation minutes in the 2025-26 NBA season. Nickeil Alexander-Walker's departure has opened up minutes, and Dillingham, alongside Terrence Shannon Jr., are ready to scoop them up.

"It’s a blessing for sure, not playing is crazy, so me being able to get a few minutes with my guys," Dillingham continued. "Regardless of if I’m playing good or bad. I’m just trying to get my spark back, honestly."
