76ers give major update on Joel Embiid's injury recovery timeline

The recovery process is moving slowly for Embiid.

Joel Embiid hasn't played in an NBA game since Feb. 22.

His season ended early after he had a procedure done on his knee.

This is the newest of several career injuries that Embiid has dealt with.

After a long period went by, with few updates, we recently got intel on what to expect regarding Embiid's recovery timeline moving forward.

What is the new timeline update?

Tony Jones of The Athletic reported, "Embiid still hasn’t returned to on-court basketball activities."

With that appearing as a concern, Jones did note, "That said, Morey and the front office remain optimistic that Embiid will be on the floor for the season opener.”

The Sixers are likely being cautious with their former MVP and biggest asset, especially with the injury history he has.

They decided to basically toss last season mid-way through, and focus on the upcoming one, rather than barely getting a play-in spot.

It paid off, as they moved up in the NBA Draft Lottery to receive the third overall pick.

Embiid wasn't the only player injured for much of last season, but they decided to think more realistically with their decision-making.

If Embiid is back healthy on the court in a few months, the 76ers could be back to being the competitive team that they hoped to be.
