Chelsea striker Christopher Nkunku (27) has set his sights on leaving Enzo Maresca’s Blues this summer to regain playing time. The France international has struggled to settle in with the Blues. Injuries have blighted his first season and his sophomore Premier League campaign has seen his appearances dramatically decrease under the tutelage of Enzo Maresca. The Italian head coach reportedly forced Nkunku to play as a defensive midfielder in training sessions.
L’Equipe reports that Nkunku wanted to leave Chelsea this winter transfer window, and with the Blues strengthening up front, the France international has not changed his mind. Nkunku must wisely choose his next club, as he may miss a second World Cup in a row for France. The outlet understands that only a handful of clubs can appeal to Nkunku. The shortlist reportedly includes Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Bayern Munich.
United and Inter Milan enquired over Nkunku some weeks ago, but they didn’t submit any bid. Die Rekordmeister are reportedly still interested but Vincent Kompany’s Bundesliga champions have other priorities to sort out. Liverpool, which eventually chose Benfica’s Darwin Nuñez over Nkunku in the summer of 2022, are not expected to rekindle their interest. L’Equipe understands that a transfer fee of €35m could be enough for Chelsea to part ways with the former RB Leipzig, who is tied with the Blues over a contract set to expire in 2029.
