Philadelphia 76ers All-Star center Joel Embiid was expected to have another All-Star season in 2024-25, but that didn’t happen.

Embiid, 31, made just 19 appearances because of a lingering knee injury and a three-game suspension he served in November spanning from an incident where he shoved a member of the NBA media.

Ultimately, Embiid underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in April to end his season and the 76ers' chances of making the postseason. Philadelphia finished 24-58 and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2016-17 because the roster was without its superstar.

Furthermore, as of Saturday, a recent report published by Tony Jones from The Athletic claimed Embiid has yet to return to “on-court basketball activities.” However, Jones noted that 76ers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey and their front office “remain optimistic that Embiid will be on the floor for the season opener.”

The 76ers' season opener has yet to be announced, along with the rest of next season’s NBA schedule, but if Embiid is ready by then, that could be a good sign for Philadelphia. The team is looking to rebound from last season and intends to have its roster at full strength.

That includes Embiid, a former NBA MVP, seven-time All-Star and five-time All-NBA team member. He has played nine seasons in the league and the Sixers are hoping year 10 will be a return to health and an MVP level.
