Brewers could stick it to Cubs by acquiring Diamondbacks All-Star third baseman

The Milwaukee Brewers are on the Chicago Cubs' heels and both teams are interested in Eugenio Suárez.

The Milwaukee Brewers have a chance to really get under the Chicago Cubs’ skin by going after a player that both teams are interested in.

Both the Brewers and the Cubs need an upgrade at third base to strengthen the middle of the lineup, and both teams have quality farm systems to get a deal done.

They are interested in Arizona Diamondbacks two-time All-Star third baseman Eugenio Suárez.

“Suárez, an All-Star for the second time, also makes sense for the Milwaukee Brewers, among other clubs,” wrote The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal. “The Diamondbacks, even if they choose not to be pure sellers, could move Suárez to open third for Jordan Lawlar. The Brewers, working off their current surplus of starting pitching, could offer a controllable starter in return.

"For such a pitcher, though, the Brewers almost certainly would want more than two months of Suárez. And the Diamondbacks, as they face the potential losses of righties Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly in free agency, might at least need to consider such a deal."

Suárez, 33, is in the final year of his contract and will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

Suárez has had an excellent first half, hitting 29 home runs and driving in 75 runs while slashing .246/.313/.550 in 93 games.

Considering Suárez has done so much damage against the Cubs in his career, the Brewers would really be sticking it to them if they made this move.
