Colorado head coach Deion Sanders wants college football to adopt some NFL-style rules.
Deion Sanders Urges NCAA To Make Crucial Rule Change originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
After going 13-11 in his first two years, Deion Sanders is getting ready to get rolling for his third season with the Colorado Buffaloes.
He's brought unprecedented attention to Boulder and the ever-struggling program, just like he did during his time at Jackson State.
Sanders is perhaps the biggest rockstar in the college football scene, and as such, he wants to make the most of his fame and platform to make a big change. Talking at the Big 12 media day, the legendary cornerback urged the NCAA to adapt some rules from the NFL to make the game more professional:
“I’d like the professional rules to be implemented in college,” Sanders said. “They’re getting ready to be pros. So let’s go two feet in on the catches. Let’s mark the foul with pass interference. Let’s do the same thing the pro game is, let’s do it in college.”
Notably, this isn't the first time that Sanders has called for change. A couple of months ago, he stated that there should be some sort of salary cap and regulation to bring more balance to the NIL landscape:
“There should be some kind of cap. Our game should emulate the NFL game in every aspect," Sanders said. "Rules. Regulations. Whatever the NFL rules, the college rules should be the same. There should be a cap, and every team gets this, and you should be able to spend that.”
Sanders has taken pride in getting his players ready not only for football but also for life, and it only makes sense that the college game tries to emulate what some of them will later do when they turn pro.
