Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp on Friday said he remains in shock more than a week after the death of Liverpool and Portugal forward Diogo Jota.
"I don't know how to process it, to be honest," Klopp said on the sidelines of a gala event in Rust, near the south-western German city of Freiburg. "We're all in close contact, but I still have no words."
Jota, 28, died on July 3 alongside his brother, André Silva, when the Lamborghini they were travelling in veered off the road and caught fire following a suspected tyre blowout. The accident occurred in the early hours of the morning in Spain.
The forward, who played under Klopp at Liverpool, had married his longtime partner Rute Cardoso just 11 days earlier and leaves behind three children.
Reflecting on the tragedy, Klopp said: "I know his whole family, and I know Liverpool will do everything they can to support them so that at least some of the burdens might be eased."
On Friday night, the English club announced Jota's squad number, 20, would be retired across all levels in honour of the Portuguese player, following consultation with his family.
