Kicker is now confirming reports from various other media outlets concerning Bayern Munich’s interests in Nigerian striker Ademola Lookman. In strict accordance with their end-of-summer transfer strategy, the Bundesliga record champions have tendered a loan offer to Lookman’s Serie A club Atalanta Bergamo. Naturally, a purchase option is also part of the deal.
Lookman shall always be remembered as the striker who ruined Bayer Leverkusen’s “perfect” 2023/24 season. The now 27-year-old handed Xabi Alonso’s Werkself their only defeat of the entire cycle that year, sinking the German Europa League finalists with a hat trick at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. Prior to that, Lookman was considered something of a flop at RB Leipzig.
Leipzig twice loaned Lookman out to the Premier League after purchasing him for €18m from Everton. Without great success at either Fulham or Leicester City, Lookman’s estimated market value sunk to a low of €9m in 2021. Leipzig ended up selling him to Atalanta for around €11m in August of 2022. Lookman is presently considered a €60m-valued player.
The Athletic reports that Bayern are offering Atalanta an €28m automatic purchase option easily obtainable through an appearance clause. This is the same model by which Bayern are still attempting to acquire Senegalese striker Nicolas Jackson on loan from Chelsea. Bayern are also reportedly trying to obtain current RB Leipzig striker Loïs Openda via the same means.
