Assuming ESPN doesn't want to go with someone they have before, here are five possible choices as guest picker for "College GameDay" in Norman.
With the announcement that Norman would host ESPN's "College GameDay" during Week 2 against Michigan, the question immediately rose.
Who will be the Sooners' guest picker?
The last four OU pickers have been former Sooners linebacker Brian Bosworth (2018), NBA guard Trae Young (2020), NFL quarterback Baker Mayfield (2023), and country-music singer Blake Shelton (2024). Shelton seems unlikely to repeat, considering it was just a year when he was on set. But country music is what Oklahoma is known for, so there are other options in the genre.
Let's take a look at five potential selections.
CeeDee Lamb, Oklahoma Football
The former Sooners All-American is well established as one of the best wide receivers in the NFL now. And with Mayfield having picked in the past, it's not unheard of for an active professional player to head back to Norman in the morning and have some fun with the "GameDay" crew.
Carrie Underwood, musician
Underwood (Checotah) is the biggest star - regardless of type - in the state of Oklahoma. It's hard to imagine her showing up on an ESPN set to goof off and make some picks, but Katy Perry did it when she was near the height of her pop-star power, so it's possible. Plus, Underwood good use some positive public relations after the backlash she received for playing the 2025 presidential inauguration.
Blake Griffin, Oklahoma Basketball
Ten years ago, Griffin (Edmond/Oklahoma City) would have been a lock. He was one of the biggest stars in the NBA during his peak and his gregariousness made him a star off the court, too. Griffin has only been retired for a season and it's unclear what he's doing now. A visit to the set might give him some attention for whatever comes next. Plus, he'd be the most fun.
Bob Stoops, Oklahoma Football
Stoops as the guest picker is almost too easy of a call. Now that his son Drake is no longer on the team, the immediate conflict is eliminated. Stoops remains closely associated with the program, the school and is an iconic face in college football across the country.
Bill Hader, actor
Why not? Hader (Tulsa) doesn't appear to have any collegiate allegiances and is a famous face who is a proud Oklahoman. As he isn't an OU fan, per se, it's possible Hader is a non-starter. But if we're talking about the most famous Okie faces, Hader makes the list in 2025.
