Georgia right tackle Earnest Greene left Saturday’s season opener in the first half with an injury and did not return. Head coach Kirby Smart revealed the latest after the 45-7 win over Marshall.

“Earnest was dealing with a little bit of lower-body stiffness and was not able to go,” Smart said after the game. “Bo Hughley stepped in there and did some good things.”

The Bulldogs also lost right guard Juan Gaston to injury in the first half, though his status remained unclear during Smart’s postgame press conference. Still, the ailments didn’t impact the outcome of the game.

“Don’t know much,” Smart said of Gaston. “We took him to do an MRI, it looks like an ankle. We don’t know if it’s a high ankle or not in terms of that. We’ll get him checked out.”

Greene has been a starter in the Bulldogs’ lineup for the past two seasons and is a former First Team Freshman All-American in 2023. He’s started 24 games, including Saturday’s season opener, for the Bulldogs.

Greene, who was named to the AP and Coaches Preseason All-SEC Third Team, will look to get back on track soon. However, Smart offered no timetable for a potential return.

For Gaston, he’s a true freshman and came to Georgia as a four-star recruit in the Class of 2025 from Westlake in South Fulton, Georgia. He was the 62-ranked recruit overall in his recruiting cycle and the No. 4 player at his position. He was named to the On3 Preseason True Freshman All-American Team, so Georgia will hope to have him back soon as well.

Despite the injuries, Georgia was able to rush for 239 yards and three touchdowns on the ground during the win. QB Gunner Stockton was the team’s leading rusher with 10 carries for 73 yards and two touchdowns, while Dwight Phillips Jr. was responsible for the other touchdown on the ground and followed that up with five carries for 60 yards.

Stockton also passed for 190 yards on 14 of 24 passing with two touchdowns. Georgia did not turn the ball over once during the victory.

The status of Georgia’s two offensive linemen remain to be seen for the Bulldogs’ Week 2 tune-up against Austin Peay. Though, it likely won’t be the end of the world if they rest next week given the Bulldogs head to Knoxville to take on a ranked Tennessee team in Week 3.
