Duke’s Pro Devils Weekend Seems Incredibly Cool

Cooper Flagg and Khaman Maluach were just two members of the Brotherhood who came back to Duke for Pro Devils Weekend.

The whole Brotherhood thing, which Blue Devils and former Blue Devils created themselves, is no joke. It’s a long blue line, stretching back to the 1960’s. Realistically though, while Duke had a great tradition before Mike Krzyzewski arrived, it took a sharp turn after he showed up.

Most of the Brotherhood is of the K and Scheyer eras. No one would argue with Jeff Mullins, Jack Marin, Jim Spanarkel, Gene Banks, Mike Gminski or Kenny Dennard, or any earlier player, but of those, only Banks and Dennard played for Coach K.

Duke has been doing something really smart: they’re having Pro Devils Weekend. This year, they had many guys return, including Shane Battier, Paolo Banchero, Cooper Flagg and Khaman Malauch, among others.

We saw a picture with Flagg, Banchero and Cameron Boozer, and how cool is that? We don’t know if anyone was in for a recruiting visit, but what an insanely powerful recruiting tool this is. If you bring a kid in and introduce him to All-Stars and national champions….well, not everyone can pull that together.

Anyway, it just underscores how much Duke’s tradition has developed since 1980. It’s really pretty amazing.
