There are two trains of thought when it comes to the beginning of the season. To start with, you are trying to set the tone for your season. A positive result is always better than the alternative. The other train of thought is that one game does not define your season. I cannot tell you how many times I have heard “you improve the most from week one to week two”.
With that established the matchup of Glen Allen and Prince George was as different as night and day in a three hour window. Both teams, Prince George and Glen Allen came into this contest with something to prove. By nights end, Glen Allen had proven they can still play defense quite well and that they have an athlete at QB in Ralphie Puccinelli. For the Royals, Prince George found out they have a lot work on if they are to continue growing as a program.
Glen Allen took advantage of miscues all night. The Royals routinely turned the ball over. Early on in this contest the Royals turned it over three consecutive drives. Drives did not stall, they stumbled. The Royals first possession of the game ended with a safety. That ball handing set forth a night of debacles for the Royals.
1st Quarter Highlights
By the end of the first quarter the Jags had a 23-0 lead!
Prince George defense stood tall on 4th & 2 with the ball at their own 12 with DeAndre Mitchell and Lucas Sheffield making plays. That performance would be the lone bright spot of the first half for the Royals.
Snap on punt sails into the end zone for safety. Then Glen Allen marches 50 yards aided by a pass interference to the end zone. Ralphie Puccinelli scored the first of four TD’s on the ground on a night where he was the start of the show.
The Royals turned the ball over twice in the first quarter and in both instances the Jags scored after the fact. Jamary DeBerry and Victor Alaedu each recovered fumbled balls as the Royals struggled with ball control.
In the first quarter alone Ralphie Puccinelli had two rushing TD’s and a TD through the air to go with that safety.
2nd Quarter Highlights
The second quarter was not much better for the Royals. The only saving grace was that the Jags scored just once.
It was shortly into the second quarter when the Royals threw their first pick of the game as Jamary DeBerry snagged that one from Cooper Hatton.
Two series later Glen Allen was on offense again when the turnover bug struck them. Jamary DeBerry continued to shine on this night after a fumble recovery and interception he was also breaking up passes. One pass he got airborne to knock down.
It was not until there was two minutes left in the half that Ralphie Puccinelli scored for a third time on the ground. With 27 seconds left in the half the Royals threw their second pick.
3rd Quarter Highlights
If not for the way the third quarter ended for the Royals, you could say they won the third quarter. The Royals opened with a 79-yard drive that saw LJ Hewlett scoring the lone TD of the night for Prince George. Hewlett found himself at QB as the Royals went to the Wildcat needing to change things up.
The Royals defense stepped up as well. Mesiyah Townsend had a stop on Jacob Boyd that if not for him Boyd’s next stop would have been the end zone.
As good as the things were going for the Royals, it all came to a screeching halt at the end of the third quarter with an interception.
4th Quarter Highlights
There is no denying the most action came in the first half, truly the first quarter of play although the fourth did see two touchdowns and another turnover.
One would think maybe just maybe Prince George would end the game on a high note after a Mesiyah Townsend interception. You could not be more wrong. Instead Prince George would go three and out in their final two possessions of the game.
For the Jags, after that INT all they did was put together drives of 60 and 52 yards with Ralphie Puccinelli scoring his fourth TD on the ground. Luke Perini got in on the scoring action as just the third Jaguar to score in the game.
The Royals weren’t coming back but these two scores put the exclamation point on a great night for the Jags and a rough one for the Royals.

For the Prince George Royals look no further than LJ Hewlett who didn’t put up huge numbers but on a night where the both sides of the ball struggled, he was the bright light. LJ carried the ball 13 times for 71 yards and scored the lone TD of the night for the Royals.
