Boston Celtics center Neemias Queta gets 6 points, 2 blocks vs. Nikola Jokic, Serbia

It should not sting too badly for Queta and Portugal to have held their own vs. a team that is heavily favored to win EuroBasket in FIBA play.

Fans of the Boston Celtics hoping for a big follow-up game from big man Neemias Queta in EuroBasket play vs. the Serbian National Team were let down a bit once the Lisbon native took the court against arguably the best big man on the planet. And while it may be true that Queta did not dominate against Serbia as he did against Czechia, he still managed to have a respectable if unimpressive line against Jokic et al.

The Celtics center put up 6 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 blocked shots in just under 22 minutes of floor time. Queta shot an inefficient 2-of-5 from the floor overall, 0-of-1 from beyond the arc, and a perfect 2-of-2 from the free throw line in a game that he picked up 3 fouls and committed no turnovers in Portugal's 80-69 loss to Serbia.

It should not sting too badly for Queta and the Portuguese National Team to have held their own for much of the contest against a team that is heavily favored to win EuroBasket in FIBA play.

Neemias Queta defends Nikola Jokic as Portugal takes on Serbia in EuroBasket play.

The Boston big man might not have shown out for the second game in a row, but it is also unreasonable to expect Queta to carry his national team against the best of the best in this tourney.

That he managed to contribute in a contest he was clearly outclassed without turnovers or an abundance of fouls is still promising, if not the dramatic follow-up Celtics fans were hoping to see.
