Cody Gakpo Commits Future to Liverpool with New Contract

Gakpo’s growing influence at Anfield

Liverpool have secured the long-term future of Cody Gakpo, with the Dutch forward putting pen to paper on a new deal at the AXA Training Centre. Since his arrival from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023, Gakpo has steadily become a central figure in an evolving side. His extension is not merely an administrative act; it is a statement of intent, tying one of Europe’s most versatile forwards to the reigning Premier League champions.

“It feels amazing to extend the contract here at this beautiful club. I’m very grateful and hopefully I can give back many more beautiful moments,” Gakpo told Liverpoolfc.com.

Connection beyond the pitch

At 26, Gakpo has already left his mark at Anfield, registering 42 goals and 16 assists in 131 appearances. His influence has stretched beyond numbers. The Dutchman speaks of comfort and belonging, a sense of rootedness that explains why he sees his future in red.

“I feel at home, my family feels at home and that’s also a big decision always. They feel good. I’m very happy at the club, a good group, good teammates, so the life around the football itself is very good and I enjoy every moment of it. I’m very grateful that I can extend.”

Such words underline the growing bond between player and club, a mutual investment in continuity and success.

Pursuit of more silverware

Since joining Liverpool, Gakpo has already lifted the Premier League and Carabao Cup, while collecting 40 caps for the Netherlands. Yet he frames his ambitions not as fulfilled but as still unfolding.

“Obviously trying to win more things with the club [is my aim], with the team. I think we have a very good squad at the moment and we’re trying to build on something special again. Obviously last season we won the league, so we have to defend it with the best of our capabilities. We want to also win the Champions League and the other cups, so that’s what we are going for.”

Future defined by progression

Liverpool’s early season form suggests Gakpo will be integral to another campaign of high ambition. He has already scored on the opening day against Bournemouth and supplied two assists in the win at Newcastle. But his gaze is set firmly on personal evolution.

“For me personally, I think I’d like to keep on developing, so every year has to be a better year than the year before. That’s what we’re aiming for.”

For Liverpool, securing Cody Gakpo’s signature is more than protecting an asset. It is about building a team capable of sustaining success and pushing once more towards Europe’s summit.
