Kenny Omega responds to report he’s ‘battling very serious pain’

The AEW star didn’t deny the report, but seems determined to not let whatever he’s working through shut him down.

In his rundown of AEW’s injured list in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer wrote that in addition to Swerve Strickland rehabbing from knee surgery and Will Ospreay getting ready to go under the knife for neck fusion, Kenny Omega is “battling very serious pain.”

Omega has been open about his challenges on the road back from a life-threatening case of diverticulitis that sidelined him for most of 2024. Even setting aside his most recent health issue, he’s more than two decades into his career — a chunk of it spent working New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s grueling main event style. He’s still in remarkable shape for a 41-year-old, but the job has taken a toll on Kenny’s body.

So Meltzer’s report wasn’t exactly shocking. And neither is Omega’s reaction to it, posted along with aggregation of the WON item:

Everybody is in some way, right?

Let’s not worry about me, we got work to do next week! I’ll be fine.

Spoken like a true EVP.

Omega hasn’t taken too much time off this year, but AEW may be trying to accomplish something similar with his booking. Since Double or Nothing, he’s primarily worked PPV. At Forbidden Door, he worked a multi-man hardcore match (the ten-man Lights Out Steel Cage match) and next Wednesday on Dynamite is scheduled for one of Tony Khan’s 8-Man All-Stag Tags™.

Hopefully it allows Omega to at least downgrade his pain a little.
