Gonzalo Garcia’s rise to prominence in the FIFA Club World Cup was not one many saw coming, particularly because he was not the team’s preferred No. 9 profile at the time.
Endrick, who was the team’s big bet as a summer signing last season, was largely dubbed to be the team’s long-term No. 9 fix. His injury at the time, however, opened the door for Garcia to see prominence.
Now, Xabi Alonso has two players competing for the same position and thus faces a good problem in his selection. Endrick, however, is the one with more to prove as he nears a recovery from his injury.
Endrick’s situation
The teenage sensation missed the end of last season’s La Liga campaign and then the beginning of the FIFA Club World Cup after suffering a hamstring injury but was expected to be back for the latter half of the USA-based tournament.
Unfortunately, however, he suffered a relapse just before his return to action and was ruled out until mid-September in which came as a massive blow to him.
Now, as relayed by MARCA, Endrick is in the final stages of his recovery and has begun working on the grass and is even moving around without discomfort.

The player is determined to fight for a place under Xabi Alonso and refuses to falter after the rise of Garcia.
The 19-year-old striker is, in fact, the first player to arrive for training in the morning and wishes not just to come back fast but to return better than ever before.
It is the young phenom’s plan to first earn a place in Alonso’s rotation, stake claim on a place in the starting XI and eventually be important for the club, and he is working towards his goals in silence and with discipline.
Endrick received multiple offers in the summer, even to leave on loan and see regular minutes to further his development. However, he never considered a departure in any capacity as it was his single objective to stay and fight at the club.
As things stand, the plan is for Endrick to return soon after the international break next month.
