GameDay: College Football Week 1

More Mizzou Football is on the way, but we’ve got a week to think about it. In the meantime, yesterday was busy here at Rock M Nation.

I’m getting used to this “open the season on Thursday and then have your whole Saturday to not worry about your team” thing. Week 0 didn’t provide a whole lot of highlights, but Week 1 is looking like it could be a lot of fun. Or at the very least, there are some big brands taking each other on, which can provide intrigue on its own.

The biggest intrigue happens when Texas takes on Ohio State. Both programs were national championship favorites a year ago. OSU won the ‘ships and both are odds on favorites to do it again this year, with Texas as the leader at +550, while OSU is tied for third with Penn State at +700.

There seems to be a lot of hype around Arch Manning, so much that Texas can lose virtually their entire offense and be picked, by Vegas, to be better! SP+ isn’t quite the believer, Bill’s expert rankings have Texas 5th, while the Buckeyes are 1st overall. Head to Head SP+ projects a (rounded) win by OSU with a 27-20 score. It’s obviously the game of the day, but LSU at Clemson which could be fun, but is the only other ranked on ranked matchup. SP+ favors the Tigers… oh, of Clemson. They’re both Tigers.

If you’re feeling a little hungover from not having Mizzou Football to watch, well there’s plenty of post-game coverage to take in, along with some added content from other sports! Yay other non-football sports!

Football!

Marquis “Speedy” Johnson, who is out to prove he can be the top dawg in the wide receiver room, looked explosive against Central Arkansas’s secondary, grabbing five balls for 134 yards and a score. He could’ve had two more scores if not for both an underthrown and overthrown ball.

The injury knocked the redshirt junior out for the rest of the game, and he was later spotted wearing a full leg cast with crutches. The circumstances surrounding Horn’s return make it possible tonight is the last we see of him in a Tigers uniform.

“Very disappointed and sad with the injury to Sam and the injury to Blake Craig, and those two things are really disappointing,” Drinkwitz said. “We’ll see tomorrow what the extent of those injuries are.”

No matter what, it’s another unfortunate event for one of the most talented but oft-injured athletes on the University of Missouri campus.

Hardy continued his tear in the second half following the touchdown. He broke free for another 23 yard run during the next Mizzou drive bringing his yard total 100 yards before the end of the third quarter. Pribula finished that drive off with his second rushing touchdown of the game.

Volleyball, Soccer, Cross Country!

We’re still waiting on official word on Sam Horn and Blake Craig, until then, let’s watch some football!
