FC Augsburg’s Sandro Wagner says Bayern Munich match is ‘just a normal game’

An old friend…

Former Bayern Munich striker Sandro Wagner will host his old squad on Saturday, but the new boss at the WWK Arena does not think the game will present anything out of the ordinary.

“Whether you believe me or not, tomorrow is really just a normal game. I don’t feel anything special. No particular goosebumps, nothing at all. Of course, I had a few stories there – but for me, it’s really just a Bundesliga game that we are determined to win. If we do, we’d have a six-point start, and then I’d be really satisfied,” said Wagner (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).

Wagner is not going to fall into the trap that many new coaches do against Bayern Munich in just thinking that any points FC Augsburg can earn will be a bonus.

“I heard the term ‘bonus game’ being mentioned somewhere here a few days ago.. Nobody dares to say that anymore now. There are no bonus games for us. We want to play every Bundesliga game to win. I try to focus solely on what the opponent can offer; what we can replicate. I have nothing to do with bonuses at all; it’s a losing attitude because you give yourself excuses beforehand. We don’t want that,” said Wagner.

Bayern Munich will hit the road to face off with its old striker — and academy product — Sandro Wagner.

Wagner is now the coach at FC Augsburg and got his team off to a good start in the Bundesliga with a big win over SC Freiburg. Now, though, the stakes are higher as Bayern Munich will roll into town for what should be a major test for Die Fuggerstädter. Let’s get into it, this is what we have on tap for this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Preview Show:
