Stadium renovations, new concession offerings, and a new athletic director have fans of the Michigan State University football team energized for a new season. The Spartans open play on Friday evening at home against Western Michigan, a familiar non-conference opponent. The Spartans have worn a variety of uniforms against the Broncos, and just unveiled their combo this year’s edition.

The uniforms the team will be wearing was announced on social media Wednesday evening, as the Spartans announced they will be donning a white helmet, green jersey, and white pants.

The white helmets feature a thick green Greek key stripe, and a white facemask. The white pants feature a light grey Greek key stripe. Friday’s game will kick off the third season of this uniform set for MSU Football, who unveiled this new design in 2023.

In the reveal video, captioned “fit check” posted Wednesday, MSU junior linebacker Jordan Hall unveils the uniform, walking a campus crosswalk at sunset. Last season, the uniform reveal videos featured unidentified players wearing the uniforms. The video featured the graphic “Week 1 Threads”, which seems like it may be the reveal theme for this year. Unlike previous years, the video did not feature any follow-up photos of this week’s uniform.

This marks the same uniform combo that Michigan State wore on opening night in 2022 against Western Michigan, a 35-13 win over the Broncos. The white/green/white combo for MSU has become a fan favorite for Spartan fans since the white helmet was brought to the fold in 2017, coincidentally in an early-season home game against Western Michigan.

This reveal comes as a surprise to some, as MSU wore green/green/white for the first three home games of the 2024 season and the Jonathan Smith era. The bulk of the predictions and guesses for week one’s uniform on social media were for that same combo.

MSU did not wear the white/green/white combination at all in 2024, or the white helmets in East Lansing, for that matter. The Spartans last wore white/green/white at home in a 45-14 win over Richmond in 2023.

Although unconfirmed, the Broncos are expected to wear a white helmet, white jersey, brown pants. This marks the first game for the Broncos in their new uniforms, which were unveiled this past offseason.

We can predict that Spartan fans will see a lot of the green jerseys the next few weeks, as MSU opens with three consecutive home games. After Friday’s opener, they host Boston College and Youngstown State.
