Is Solo’s title reign already coming to an end?
SmackDown airs tonight (Aug. 29) with a taped show emanating from LDLC Arena in Lyon, France. This is the final episode of SmackDown during the four week build towards Clash in Paris, which takes place on Sunday (Aug. 31).
The WrestleMania main eventer is here to take Solo Sikoa’s title
Sami Zayn’s underdog chase of the world championship on Raw didn’t pan out this year, and now he’s an official member of the SmackDown roster. After the roster move, Sami immediately switched gears and is now completely focused on wining Solo Sikoa’s United States championship.
Solo has an entire gang of MFTs watching his back to ensure Sami can’t take his belt away, while Zayn might only have Jimmy Uso in his corner. That’s probably why Solo laughed off the idea of Sami beating him for the gold last week on SmackDown when they confronted each other backstage. But Sami wasn’t the least bit intimidated and responded with the following message for Sikoa:
“You’re not dealing with underdog Sami Zayn. You’re dealing with WrestleMania main eventer Sami Zayn.”
Solo stood up a little taller upon hearing those words, as he knew there was something different in Zayn’s tone of voice and confidence in being the favorite this time.
The title match is booked for tonight’s episode of SmackDown. Does Sami have a master plan in mind (aka Jacob Fatu) for eliminating the MFTs at ringside and getting his hands on Solo in a fair fight? If not, why is he so sure that the odds are actually in his favor tonight?
Tune into SmackDown to see if Sami Zayn prevails in his latest championship chase in WWE.
The rest of the card
The WWE women’s tag team championship is also on the line tonight on SmackDown. After Piper Niven’s upset victory over Charlotte Flair last week, the Allies of Convenience will defend the gold against The Secret Hervice. Can Flair and Alexa Bliss learn from their mistake and overcome Chelsea Green’s cheating at ringside this time?
Street Profits vs. Melo Don’t Miz is also scheduled for SmackDown. This is a number one contender’s match for the WWE tag team championship, so the Wyatt Sicks will probably be lurking nearby and watching the action. Is Carmelo Hayes genuinely impressed with The Miz’s intelligence and tactics in the ring, or is he just setting up the A-Lister for a betrayal when the time is right?
Other stuff to keep an eye on
– GM Nick Aldis heard from Brock Lesnar at the end of last week’s episode and was about to tell John Cena all about it, but YouTube douchebag parasite outsider Logan Paul knocked out Cena before that could happen. Will Aldis reveal Brock’s message tonight, or will he wait until after Cena vs. Paul happens at Clash in Paris?
– How will Drew McIntyre react when Joe Tessitore and Wade Barrett once again fail to provide a medical update on WWE Champion Cody Rhodes? After last week’s RKO outta nowhere, will Randy Orton confront Drew face-to-face this time to demand a match against him at Clash in Paris?
– WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton teamed up with Jade Cargill on last week’s episode to win a tag team match in the main event against Nia Jax and Becky Lynch. Jade pinned Nia to win the bout. Does she need to do anything else to earn a rematch for Stratton’s gold?
– R-Truth pulled a fast one on Aleister Black last week and surprised him with the return of Damian Priest. Will Truth travel to the correct city this week so Black can kick his head off with Black Mass?
– Michin wants a shot at Women’s United States Champion Giulia, but first she’ll have to go through the champ’s mouthpiece, Kiana James. Will Michin vs. James be added to tonight’s show?
– Will the Motor City Machine Guns develop a strong taste for WWE catering tonight to help stomach their current winless streak?
– Where the f*** is Shinsuke Nakamura?
