The NBA season is getting closer to its start, and the Dallas Mavericks could be trading 23-year-old guard Jaden Hardy before the season begins.

After a season that saw franchise star Luka Doncic traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, the Dallas Mavericks' future hopes were saved after landing the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, selecting Duke prospect Cooper Flagg.

The addition of a player with a high ceiling at such a young age was the perfect piece for the Mavericks in turning the team around.

Heading into the 2025-26 season, the Mavericks will have to adjust without guard Kyrie Irving, and they are looking to go through the necessary steps to set up the roster to its highest potential while waiting for his return.

Mavericks could be moving on from guard Jaden Hardy

Dallas was able to sign guard D'Angelo Russell to fill the void of Kyrie Irving, but it seems that the Mavericks are still looking to make moves at the guard position.

The Stein Line's Jake Fischer wrote an article, mentioning that the team could be looking to trade Jaden Hardy to narrow down the roster.

"The Mavericks committed in early July to re-signing guard Dante Exum to bolster their backcourt to cope without Kyrie Irving (knee) for the season's first few months but need to shed one of their 15 standard contracts on the books to do so. It's believed that their push to make a trade to do just that — whether it involves Prosper or another player such as Jaden Hardy — will result in a resolution by week's end," Fischer said.

Hardy, a second-round pick in 2022, has seen limited minutes in the three seasons he's played with the Mavericks. His production is yet to take an improving step.

In 2024-25, he averaged 8.7 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 1.4 assists while shooting 43.5% from the field and 38.6% from three.
