Here are five of the best games to watch in high school football in Bucks County during Week Two of the 2025 season
We head into Week Two of the high school football season in Bucks County after a typically unpredictable opening weekend of games.
What will Week Two bring? Likely more of the same unpredictability.
Five of the top games for this coming week in the 2025 high school football season in Bucks County and Eastern Montgomery County (with games on Thursday, Friday and Saturday) are highlighted below with the rest of the area schedule.
Council Rock South (1-0) at North Penn (1-0), Thursday, 7 p.m.
Call this one a team on the rise (CR South) and an established side with big goals (North Penn).
The Golden Hawks, who went 4-6 a year ago, enter the game coming off a 50-8 win over Frankford in their opener while the Knights, 11-3 a year ago and a PIAA District One Class 6A finalist, topped Downingtown East 42-21.
Council Rock South, which has 10 starters back on each side of the ball, built a 28-0 lead on Frankford before the end of the first quarter and was never threatened.
Junior quarterback Marley Emerson, in his second year as the starter, only threw two passes in the win, including a 15-yard TD to senior tight end Joey Madara.
In their win over the Cougars, the Knights received 100-plus yard rushing games from both Matt Pownall and junior Rylei Gray while junior linebacker Jacob Garrett returned a fumble 67 yards for a touchdown.
Last meeting: a 34-6 North Penn win in 2024
Quakertown (0-1) at Pennsbury (0-1), Thursday, 7 p.m.
Here are two teams both with realistic goals of qualifying for the PIAA District One Class 6A playoffs that need a win to avoid the "dreaded" 0-2 start.
Quakertown, which, like Pennsbury, made districts a year ago, lost its opener to a very good Class 4A squad in Southern Lehigh of District 11, 35-14.
The Panthers managed less than 200 yards of offense and had just a half-dozen first downs to the Spartans' 25.
As for the Falcons, they led 14-0 at the half only to see the Konkrete Kids score three unanswered touchdowns after intermission to earn the win.
Senior running back Jordan Brensinger led the way for Pennsbury with a game-high 84 rushing yards and a touchdown.
Last meeting: a 17-7 Pennsbury win in 2024
Cardinal O'Hara (1-0) vs. Archbishop Wood (1-0), Friday, 7 p.m. (at William Tennent)
The Lions had little trouble in their opener as they swamped Audenried of the Philadelphia Public League 49-0.
Senior Amahj Gowans and junior Isaac Day each had a pair of rushing touchdowns for Cardinal O'Hara in the win.
On the flip side, the Vikings played a strong program in Central Bucks South and came away with an impressive 39-28 win. A year ago, the Titans handed the Vikings a 35-0 defeat.
Junior quarterback Jack Drakeley was superb for the Vikings as he threw for 260 yards and a career-high four touchdowns while senior wideout Trey Smith hauled in eight receptions for a state-best (in Week One) 175 yards and a touchdown.
Last meeting: a 31-19 Cardinal O'Hara win in 2024
Malvern Prep (0-0) vs. La Salle (1-0), Friday, 6 p.m. (at Ocean City High School)
As usual, this one's a biggie as the Friars enter as the No. 2 ranked team in the state while the Explorers have jumped up to No. 1 in most statewide polls after preseason No. 1 Saint Joseph's Prep lost to American Heritage of Florida 31-28 in its opener (a game the Hawks led 28-0 late in the third quarter).
Malvern Prep, which is a member of the Inter-Academic League and not a PIAA member, is led by senior linebacker Max Mohring, who has offers from Kentucky and Central Florida among many others.
The Explorers moved to No. 1 in the state with an impressive 23-6 win over then No. 3 Pittsburgh Central Catholic, a perennial power and a PIAA Class 6A finalist last season (the Vikings lost to St. Joe's Prep in the state final).
Against PCC, La Salle jumped out to a 16-0 lead and was never threatened as the Explorers forced the Vikings to punt on their first five possessions.
Offensively, Explorers senior quarterback Gavin Sidwar, a Missouri commit, threw for 270 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Last meeting: a 21-17 La Salle win in 2024
Upper Dublin (0-1) at Central Bucks West (0-1), Friday, 7 p.m.
Like many teams, these two both have aspirations of reaching the postseason (the Cardinals in Class 5A and the Bucks in Class 6A) and both stumbled in their openers.
Upper Dublin lost to rival Wissahickon 21-16, allowing the Trojans to snap a 12-game losing streak to the Cardinals, and is looking to bounce back against a Bucks team that dropped a 26-20 verdict to host Easton of District 11 in a game the Red Rovers led 19-0 in the third quarter before the Bucks rallied.
After taking an early 7-0 lead, the Cardinals, who committed three turnovers, didn't get in the end zone again until 10 seconds remained in the contest as quarterback Lawson Tyler found tight end Benji Ravitz from 35 yards out.
As for the Bucks, they closed the gap to 26-20 with just over two minutes to play on a 1-yard touchdown run by Nick Miletto but a lost fumble, after the West defense held Easton to a three and out, in the waning seconds ended any hope of a comeback win.
Last meeting: a 35-14 Central Bucks West win in 2024
