The Aces are balling out of control right now. Wilson’s averages across this 11-game win streak are laugh-out-loud wild: 26.2 points and 12.7 rebounds on 49.3/41.2/89 shooting splits, plus 3.3 stocks (steals + blocks). Chelsea Gray has more than seven dimes per game during that stretch, Jewell Loyd is feeling it beyond the arc, and NaLyssa Smith has reimagined the team’s two-way game off the glass.

Las Vegas looked like a fading dynasty just a few weeks ago, 14-14 on Aug. 2. It’s now just the second team to have clinched a playoff spot, with growing confidence to take on the top-seeded Minnesota Lynx. The Aces have reached the semifinals in each of the last six WNBA campaigns. Becky Hammon led the franchise to league championships in 2022 and ’23. Everything is looking realigned as September comes into view.

Atlanta has remade itself in its own right. Karl Smesko is enjoying a copacetic coaching debut, with his Dream second in both offensive and defensive rating. Allisha Gray is patient and creative with her shot creation, while Rhyne Howard is fearless from the outside. She’s a high-volume heat-checker with a couple of recent clunkers (1-for-10 on 3s vs. New York, 2-for-11 vs. Minnesota), but she’s also a stabilizing initiator with two or fewer turnovers in each of her last five outings.

Brionna Jones should provide a sticky challenge to the MVP-level Wilson. She blocked four Lynx shots last Thursday, and came down with four offensive boards in Saturday’s win against the Liberty.

Best player to wear both jerseys: Angel McCoughtry, no doubt, with 19.1 points per game in Atlanta and 13.8 in Vegas.
