Struggling Cheltenham in 'eye of storm' - Flynn

Winless Cheltenham are in the "eye of a bad storm" says head coach Michael Flynn following their exit from the Carabao Cup.

Cheltenham are in the "eye of a bad storm" said head coach Michael Flynn following their exit from the Carabao Cup in the second round.

The Robins are winless so far in 2025-26 and are bottom of League Two, with five defeats, and they lost 3-0 to the Bluebirds in the EFL Cup on Tuesday.

The club were taken over last week by former Burnley chairman Mike Garlick.

"We are in the eye of a bad storm at the minute and I'm just waiting to break through the other side because it's getting a bit monotonous, talking about the same mistakes with the players," Flynn told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.

"We're working really hard as staff, I've had some good chats with Mike Garlick and we need to get these players in sharpish, we need to get them over the line because we need help."

'It doesn't rain, it pours'

Flynn has been in charge of the Robins since May 2024 and guided them to 15th in the table last season.

However, so far this campaign they have scored just one goal and conceded 11 in the league, and following Saturday's defeat by Barnet, Flynn said he hoped he had "enough time" to make a difference.

"We're up against it, but I'll stand here with my chest big, my shoulders back and give everything I can to Cheltenham Town," Flynn said.

"They need a scapegoat, at the minute that's me.

"I helped the club punch well above their weight last season, yes we started poor but there's players that have [had] their heads turned in the window.

"If we can get the right ones in I'm optimistic our fortunes will turn and we'll start putting some games together."

Winger Jordan Thomas is expected to be out for three to four months after breaking a joint in his shoulder, Flynn confirmed.

The 24-year-old went off midway through the second-half of the loss to Barnet.

Defenders Darragh Power (hip abductor) and Arkell Jude-Boyd (hamstring) were injured during the loss to Cardiff, to compound Cheltenham's woes.

There is also no news on when Rob Cundy and Harry Pell will be available.

"It doesn't rain, it pours," Flynn said.

"I'm hoping we're getting all the bad luck here at once.

"Saying that, let's look ourselves in the mirror, the goals we are conceding are terrible, they're really really poor, they're almost inexcusable."
